Have you ever wondered how Yokeru came to be? Let me share our family story with you.
My brother Hector and I have always been incredibly close. We spent our childhood making dens, hanging out in the fields, and enjoying the company of our amazing grandmother, Sue. She was a central figure in our lives, always there with delicious biscuits and questionable advice on girls! However, one day our lives took a life-changing turn.

Out of the blue, my parents called us and said that our granny had fallen over and had been left lying outside for about eight hours. Unfortunately, her pendant alarm and mobile phone were inside the house, and she was in the garden, meaning she had no way of making contact with anyone. It took a neighbour seeing her eight hours later to finally attend to her. Imagine how she felt hour after hour, wondering if she might not be found before it got dark.
I later found out that the longer it takes for someone to get help, the longer their recovery time. We need to do better for the vulnerable people in our society. These horrible things do happen, but we need to prevent them as often as possible and ensure their wellbeing and swift recovery.
Hector and I decided we needed to create a solution. We looked endlessly but couldn’t find any proactive, automated solution. This search became the cornerstone of Yokeru. We wanted to help vulnerable people the way our granny should have been looked after. The solution is simple: if there’s no reply, it’s automatically escalated and prioritised immediately. This allows operators to focus on emergencies while the system handles routine check-ins every day.
This tragic incident highlighted the reactive nature of existing care services. Organisations often struggle with firefighting priorities and an endless list of calls, making it difficult to be proactive. Most likely, what happened to Sue was because the call agents were bogged down with manual calls, leading to delays. They were waiting for her to press her alarm, but she was unable to, and the staff, working reactively rather than proactively, couldn’t check on her in time.
By automating 95% of routine check-ins, operators can now concentrate on the 5% who need help. They are focused and ready to assist, which is much more rewarding when they are actually making a difference to someone’s day or life. Yokeru not only supports the users but also reassures their families. It’s a big comfort for families, knowing that human error is much less of a factor.
Creating Yokeru was our way of turning a tragic family incident into a proactive solution for others. We immediately recognised the need for proactive monitoring and support in care services. Using webinars and case studies, we teach monitoring centres how to use our technology to automate routine checks and provide consistent care. Regularly gathering feedback and data helps us refine and enhance the services provided, making smarter business decisions.
There is a common myth that AI in care services is too complex and unnecessary. We have proven it is not too complex, yet it is absolutely necessary. Service users love it, teams love it, and families love it. It's a win-win-win.

Yokeru is not just a business; it’s a mission driven by a deeply personal story. Instead of pursuing our own dream careers, Hector and I decided to create something that could help our granny and help the mums and dads of other people. This family-owned, family-run business is built on love, trust, and the desire to make a difference. By leveraging AI to automate routine tasks, Yokeru is revolutionising care, ensuring that no one has to experience what my grandmother did.
Our journey began with a personal story, but it has evolved into a mission to revolutionise proactive care. By sharing the story of my grandmother and the emotional impact of her fall, I hope to highlight the importance of proactive care and the benefits of implementing AI-driven solutions like Yokeru. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals and their families.
