Stop waiting for a crisis—it's time to take action with proactive care.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: the way we approach care for our vulnerable loved ones is broken. We’re stuck in this outdated, reactive model where help only arrives after something terrible has already happened. And it hurts my soul to think that my granny, Sue, was just one of many who have suffered because of it.

I’ve written about my grandmother's experience before, but it bears repeating because it's still happening to others. You can read more about our story here, but to give you the short version—my grandmother fell in her garden and was left lying there for 8 hours!!!! Helpless! All because her pendant alarm and mobile phone were inside the house. It wasn’t until a neighbour happened to notice her that she finally received the help she so desperately needed. The scariest part is that she was being monitored, reactively. That incident didn’t just traumatise her; it shook our entire family to the core.
But here’s the thing that really gets to me: my granny’s story isn’t unique. I know this because, whilst visiting a scheme, I met another woman called Ann who had gone through almost the exact same ordeal. She had fallen in her home and lay on the floor with a broken hip for hours before anyone found her. Imagine!!! This delay in getting help drastically prolonged her recovery time and took a toll on her both physically and mentally. She told me, "Before using Yokeru, I always kept forgetting to wear my pendant alarm. I’d walk around the house with a constant sense of dread, worrying that if something happened, no one would find me." Understandable, right?
We're very proud to partner with companies that provide traditional safety devices like buttons and pendants, which are essential for elderly care (my granny has one!). But let's not overlook the massive opportunity to further enhance care with proactive services that ensure help is on the way, even when those devices aren’t within reach.
And this is why I’m so passionate—angry—about the way we’ve been doing things. Why are we still leaving our most vulnerable to fend for themselves until it’s too late? It’s maddening! We’re allowing human forgetfulness and outdated systems to dictate whether or not someone gets the help they need.

Let me tell you, the risks associated with this kind of forgetfulness are too high. We’re talking about lives at risk simply because someone forgot to wear a pendant or make a call. This is the reason why Yokeru exists—so that no one else has to go through what my granny or Ann had experienced. Yokeru's proactive well-being checks ensure that if someone misses a call, we know about it immediately, and help is on the way.
It’s more than just a system; it’s peace of mind. Families should not have to live in constant worry, wondering if their loved one is okay. With Yokeru, they don’t have to. We’ve flipped the script on care services—no more waiting for a crisis, no more hoping that someone happens to notice when something’s wrong. We’re preventing the problems before they escalate.
Yokeru has completely changed the game. We’re using AI to ensure that every person is looked after, and that no one falls through the cracks. For the first time in history, we can truly proactively monitor our vulnerable loved ones, giving them—and us—the peace of mind that comes from knowing help is always just a call away.
So let’s stop this nonsense of waiting until it’s too late. Let’s stop firefighting and start planning. We have the technology; now it’s time to use it.
