Transforming Community Care: How Westminster City Council Utilised AI to Engage 11,500 Vulnerable Residents

published on 30 May 2024

The Challenge:

Reaching and supporting vulnerable individuals, especially those shielding due to the pandemic, is crucial. Westminster City Council needed an efficient method to contact over 11,500 vulnerable residents, overcoming barriers of age and digital literacy, to address unmet needs, social isolation, and loneliness.

The AI-Driven Solution:

By adopting Yokeru’s AI call platform, Westminster City Council established regular direct contact with vulnerable individuals. Yokeru’s technology enabled the council to reach 5.5% of shielding residents, significantly higher than the national average of 0.89%. The platform serves as an engagement tool, sharing and collecting critical information from large groups swiftly and effectively.

The Outcomes:

Yokeru’s AI enabled the council to contact 11,500 households, a task that would have taken 152 working days for human operators. Calls, lasting two to five minutes, are made bi-weekly during regular waking hours. The responses are instantly analysed and sent to the council’s case management system for immediate action. This approach has not only ensured that fewer individuals ‘slip through the net’ but also facilitated preventive support, enhancing community safety and support.

In Westminster City Council’s Words:

“Yokeru’s AI Calls have made a great difference in how we communicate with residents, allowing us to get in contact with people quickly and identify their specific needs. During these difficult times, it’s important we stay in touch with our vulnerable residents to make sure they are supported.” - Cllr Heather Acton, Westminster City Council Cabinet Member for Communities and Regeneration

A spokesperson for Westminster City Council added, “The use of Yokeru reduces the chances of people ‘slipping through the net’ and enables rapid identification and support of specific community needs. This technology has made our community safer and better supported.”
